Information about Leipzig
Leipzig is situated in the east of Germany, in a low-lying area by the rivers Elster, Pleisse and Parthe in the north-west part of the Free State of Saxony. Average altitude is 118m above sea-level.
Leipzig currently has about 494,000 inhabitants. The city covers 297.5sq.km and enjoys, in general, a relatively mild climate. The average annual temperature is about +11,2°C, in January average 0°C, in July average 18°C; annual precipitation 610 mm; sunshine hours 1,675 h.
Leipzig has a tradition of being a junction point for traffic. Having grown up as a trade-fair and commercial centre at the crossroads of two military and commercial routes, it is today more than ever a focus of traffic routes running in all directions. So there are numerous ways to get to Leipzig by road, rail and air.
